A Greek Tragedy. Sympathetic gods grant a starving poet startling prowess of lyrical composition and expression. His alluring and irresistible fables bring him fame, fortune, love, and power. But eventually the poet is lulled into complacency; and, worse, begins to think of himself as a god. Gradually, his writings take a life of their own, become vengeful, and yearn for their independence and to be free from the poet’s control. These lyrics formulate a cunning plan and ultimately create a story so persuasive that they lure him, the author, to throw himself to his death.
